The must haves of leadership.
Real leadership, of course, has never been a matter of mere formal authority. Leaders are effective when other people acknowledge them as such- by listening seriously to their ideas, valuing and following their suggestions for action , and turning for them for advice.
What makes a leader isn’t a title :
Who you are.

Everyone’s familiar with the “ born” charismatic leader. But what most aspiring leaders need isn’t charisma. It’s more mundane virtues such as reputation for hard work and integrity.
What you know.

You’ve seen it happen : a meeting is meandering on, the outcome uncertain – and then one participant introduces significant new facts or insights. Bingo : Information carries the day.
Occasionally the information provider is smarter or more experienced than other participants.
How you interact with people.

People don’t like being told what to do by someone who isn’t their boss. Instead of telling, Fisher and Sharp suggest asking questions to solicit other’s input, offering our ideas as part of solution, and doing something that models or demonstrates what you’d like to see happen.
